Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer. Columbus discovered the “New World” of the Americas in 1492. Columbus believed that sailing west would be a faster way to get to India.
Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy. He has been credited for opening up the Americas to European colonization.
