Read below the story highlighting the importance of “Preparedness” or “Readiness”.
Once, a young man applied for a job as a farmhand. When the farmer asked him about his qualifications, the young man replied, “I can sleep when the wind blows.” The farmer found this response puzzling but was intrigued by the young man’s confidence and decided to hire him.
A few days later, a violent storm struck in the middle of the night, waking the farmer and his wife. Worried about their property, they quickly checked everything to ensure it was secure. To their relief, they discovered that the shutters of the farmhouse were tightly closed, and a stack of logs was conveniently placed near the fireplace.
To their surprise, the young man was fast asleep, undisturbed by the storm.
The farmer and his wife continued to inspect their farm and noticed that all their tools were neatly stored in the shed, protected from the elements. The tractor had been moved into the garage, and the barn was securely locked. Even the animals seemed calm and untroubled. Everything was in order.
It was then that the farmer understood the true meaning behind the young man’s words, “I can sleep when the wind blows.” By faithfully performing his duties and responsibilities even during peaceful times, the farmhand had prepared everything for the storm’s arrival. As a result, when the wind blew, he had no fear or worry. He could sleep peacefully, knowing that he had done his job diligently.
